The 1% program for Public Architecture connects nonprofit organizations in need of design assistance with architecture and design firms willing to donate their time on a pro bono basis. It was through this program our office teamed with Wonderland Development Center, an early-intervention agency in King County for infants and toddlers with develop-mental delays and disabilities. The Wonderland staff had outgrown their space and needed a semi-permanent construction that could be disassembled at the conclusion of their lease. Our office designed and built two new private offices with adjacent reception and storage within the shell of the existing building. The completed project provides the staff with private, functional workspaces but also a more playful and welcoming environment that better represents the personality and mission of the program.
